Kolkata- B.R. Singh Hospital and Indian Railways Health Services Association (IRHSA)/Eastern Railway played host to ER MEDICON 2023 – the just concluded 48th Annual Scientific Seminar Conference and CME (Continuing Medical Education) programme held on 7th and 8th January, 2023 at Dr. B. C. Roy auditorium complex,
Sealdah. Immensely acclaimed and one of the most prestigious gathering organized by the medical department, ER, with the theme focused on ‘Recent advances in medical science’. The programme was attended by about 350 delegates from all over Indian Railways lending pan India presence to the conference.
Distinguished speakers and eminent medical experts of the city and from outside participated in the proceedings which blended subjects from different specialists and sub-specialists of current medical interests. The core areas of discussion included Oncology, diabetes and recent advances, cardiology and after thoughts on the COVID Pandemic and present global scenario.
The highlights of ER MEDICON-2023 organised an inaugural programme held on 7th January with Chief Guest Shri Prasanna Kumar, Director General, Railway Health Services/Railway Board, inaugurated the meet in august presence of Shri Arun Arora, General Manager, Eastern Railway, Dr. Rudrendu Bhattacharya, Principal Chief Medical Director/Eastern Railway, Dr. Ashwini Malhotra, PR. Executive director, Health/Railway Board, Shri S.P.Singh, DRM/Sealdah, and organizing secretaries Dr. Subhankar Home and Dr. Ashok Saha. Other distinguished dignitaries including Mrs. Archana Joshi, GM/S.E.Railway, Dr.Jaideep Gupta, AGM/ER, Dr. N. K. Chowdhury, PCMD/SER, were also present in this seminar.
DG/Railway Health Services/Railway Board stressed upon the active need for increasing the number of Post Graduate trained doctors in Indian Railways. Shri Arun Arora,
GM/ER praised the activists and accomplishments of the medical department and at the same time emphasized upon the need for basic medical screening and management of the railway employees as a good preventive exercise. He also stressed upon the need for immediate infrastructural up-gradation so as to bring the scope of tertiary health care facilities to the Railway beneficiaries.
Blending work with an extent of ideas, the mega medical event was a grand success and provided inspiration and motivation to medical and officers for holding such events on regular basis for updating knowledge and skills for imparting better services to the Railway fraternity.
